Turkey: 100K People Marched, and Pride Banned

Pride House, Fri 5 Aug 3:00 PM–4:00 PM

The Pride-movement in Turkey has changed and developed since the 2010s. What happened during the first Pride Parade in the country, and how did the Gezi Park-protests in 2013 change the situation for the LGBTI+ community?

We’ll start the panel with a 12-min video summarizing how first-ever pride held in Turkey and what happened and how it developed into 2010s. After the video we'll discuss the relation of feminist and LGBTI+ movements. Then, what changed after 2013 (Gezi Park protests), the situation of LGBTI+ associations and initiatives, and where we stand today. Lastly, digital communication/interaction and how we can/do activism on social media.
